The Only Products I Actually Use on My Clothes — From a Laundromat Owner

After running a laundromat for 8+ years and processing thousands of pounds of laundry, I’ve tested more products than I can count — eco, trendy, high-end, budget, and everything in between.

These are the products I personally use at home and trust on my own clothes. No fluff, no gimmicks — just what actually works.

1. Dirty Labs Bio Enzyme Laundry Detergent

Why I use it: It’s powerful, clean, and doesn’t leave behind a harsh fragrance. I personally love both the unscented and the Magnolia - Bergamot - Cedar scent. The enzymes break down stains better than most conventional detergents, and it’s safe on everything from denim to delicates. Plus its biodegradable!

Best for: Everyday laundry, activewear, baby clothes

2. DedCool Laundry “Dedtergent 01 Taunt”

Why I use it: This is my “treat myself” detergent. It smells luxe, lingers for days, and instantly makes laundry feel elevated. I use it on bedding, towels, or anything I want to smell amazing.

Best for: Sheets, towels, scent-forward loads
Shop it here: Dedtergent 01 Taunt

3. Mesh Wash Bags

Why I use them: These don’t technically prevent shrinkage, but they do protect clothes from stretching, snagging, and rough agitation in the washer. I use them for bras, sweaters, baby socks — anything delicate or prone to damage.

Pro tip: Shrinkage usually happens in the dryer. To really preserve your clothes, air dry or use low heat.

Best for: Lingerie, knits, swimsuits, socks or anything you deem delicate
Shop it here: Option 1 , Option 2, Option 3.

4. Stain Treatment Sprays (Miss Mouth’s + Enzyme Options)

Why I use them: Between toddler messes and everyday stains, I need products that actually work — without bleaching or ruining fabrics.

  • Miss Mouth’s Messy Eater Stain Treater is a go-to for food, blood, and even mystery stains. It’s fast (you can literally see the stain melt away), clean, and non-toxic.

  • I also keep an enzyme-based spray (like Branch Basics or Puracy) on hand for sweat, pit stains, and anything protein-based.

Best for: Baby clothes, food spills, sweat, blood, wine

5. Fabric Shaver or Sweater Comb

Why I use it: Pilling makes everything look worn out. A good fabric shaver can bring sweaters, leggings, and even couch cushions back to life. It’s an underrated wardrobe saver. It can also be quite meditative.

Best for: Knits, cashmere, leggings, upholstery
Shop it here: Nori Fabric Shaver

6. Wool Dryer Balls

Why I use them: I haven’t bought dryer sheets in years (nor do I recommend using them). These help reduce static and cut drying time, and they’re reusable. If you like scent, add a few drops of essential oil to them.

Best for: Everyday laundry, especially big loads
Shop it here: Dry Balls & Essential Oils

7. Collapsible Drying Rack

Why I use it: Air-drying helps clothes last longer — period. I use mine for linen, silk, activewear, and anything labeled “hang dry.” Look for one that folds up easily so it doesn’t take over your space.

Best for: Delicates, denim, anything prone to shrinking
Shop it here: Wooden Drying Rack, Metal Drying Rack, Mesh Sweater Rack
